A fitting celebration for our 45th anniversary.
It was 5.00am, with the sun just rising, when we said au revoir to our friends at the end of the 45th anniversary visit. So much packed into such a short time, but always time to say a very big thank you to everyone who contributed to making this a particularly successful event, and one completely appropriate to the occasion.
We have had many complimentary comments from our guests, and it seems that every aspect of the programme was received with great enthusiasm. They enjoyed their visit to Oxford, with even the weather behaving. Thanks to Mike and Julie Harvey for leading the trip and Ian and Yvonne Claridge in support, ensuring that everyone got back in time for the Celebration Dinner in the newly refurbished Public Hall. It goes without saying that we are very grateful to our host families. Your generous hospitality and warmth are what makes our twinning relationship possible, and they were commented on frequently, not only by our old friends who always settle in comfortably, but particularly by the new faces for whom the warmth of the welcome was a most rewarding introduction to twinning.
We are very grateful to Winslow Town Council for their help throughout the event, and particularly for the presentation of a picnic table, sited alongside the pétanque terrain, to mark the 45th anniversary. Thanks to Vron Corben and her helpers for the well-attended Saturday coffee morning, and to Fiona Storey and Helen Kemp of the Winslow Concert Band who entertained us there. And particular thanks to the WAFTA committee and our helpers who worked tirelessly before and during the visit and who made the organisation look easy. We have agreed the dates with the Jumelage Committee for next year in Cours as Wednesday May 13th to Sunday May 17th, 2026.
