This year we celebrated the 46th year of our Twinning partnership with a most successful visit to our twin town of Cours.

Twenty-six members, including some participants from Winslow Concert Band, enjoyed a warm welcome from our French friends, even though the weather was rather cool! A measure of the long-term success of our relationship with Cours was that some of our members were part of the original visit at the formation of twinning, one of them still staying with the same host.

We were treated to a reception on arrival in the Chateau de la Fargette, before departing with our hosts.

The formal Dinner took place in the hall at La Ville where we had a lively evening of good food, wine, champagne and entertainment. Winslow Concert Band played entertaining music together with musicians and singers from the Harmonie de Thizy.

The day trip this year was to the Museum of the Automobile, near Lyons, where we saw interesting examples of early cars, motor bikes and bicycles, following a lunch by the riverside overlooking the Saône.

Saturday, which is always a busy day, started with a joint committee meeting of the two organising committees, followed by a wreath-laying ceremony at the War Memorial where we laid wreaths on behalf of WAFTA and Winslow Town Council.

This was followed by an organ recital in the church and an open-air concert where members of Winslow Concert Band entertained the market day crowds.                      Huge thanks are due to our French friends for their generous hospitality and friendship.

 Pétanque

We are  playing our usual games of pétanque on the first Thursday of the month at 10.45am on the terrain in the Arboretum, weather permitting. This is open to all comers, so do come along if you would like to join in.
